It boosts the signal to help eliminate dead spots and provides a stronger signal in areas with obstructions that would typically reduce the wireless range. The Wi-Fi range extender is also backward compatible with 802.11b/802.11g/802.11n networks, so you can use it with wireless routers that use older standards.
